As a Norfolk wedding photographer I have the opportunity to visit many incredible wedding venues in Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambrideshire as well as across the UK and destination weddings in Europe. However there is one very special wedding venue that I always look forward to shooting at.
I have to declare a conflict of interest when beginning this overview of Hales Hall and it’s grand Great Barn. I actually had my own wedding reception there back in 2008 although it has always stood out head and shoulders as a unique barn wedding venue in Norfolk.
It’s also right on my doorstep, just 3 minutes from my home, so again there’s a close local connection and I feel incredibly lucky every time I’m asked to photograph a wedding at The Great Barn at Hales Hall.
The Great Barn at Hales Hall lends itself to couples looking for a spacious, blank canvas in which to create their own unique wedding. The grounds are immaculately kept by the dedicated grounds staff headed up by Carl the resident horticultural and landscaping wizard.
Overseeing the planning and management of the day are one of the region’s top hospitality teams in Briony & Nick DeAth and Emily Hardesty. From day one of their involvement I’ve not witnessed a wedding that hasn’t been anything less than perfect. They and their crack professional team make the the day flow effortlessly for their couples. Smiles are abundant, nothing is ever too much trouble and you can’t help notice that everyone is working together and from the same page - not always the case I can assure you!
The Great Barn is the largest surviving Tudor brick built barn in Britain, allowing for 150 ceremony guests and 200 for your reception. It’s extraordinary beamed interior makes for a wonderful ceiling for a wedding breakfast and there are 180 ‘loophole’ windows each housing single candle. On request these can be lit to illuminate your reception space. With the fully controllable lighting system dimmed this creates an utterly magical atmosphere for your first dance and evening celebrations.
Here's a brief collection from just a few of the weddings I've shot at this wonderful venue….
